As the world shuts down and its streets become deserted, the lifeblood of its economy continues to flow – not only in the office buildings but also inside the private homes of determined individuals and through the capillaries of the world wide web. With healthcare workers saving lives on the front line, the battle against coronavirus is also being conducted by second-line people, so that when, as it must, this pandemic passes, life, and the means by which it is lived, can resume.

"A real smart-working dynamic has been established"

With gloomy economic news, optimism about the future is a rare commodity, but it can be found at Comdata France, where Laurent is one of our Paris Site Directors.

What I will remember,” he says, “is the commitment of Comdata France’s teams and their ability to react to a completely new and fast-changing environment. The dedication of the management team, the Human Resources department and the technical department enabled us to manage the crisis in the best way possiblewhile maintaining the trust of all our stakeholders.

Measures were quickly introduced to protect the health of our employees, secure the sites and disinfect the premises.

"From the moment the authorities started to announce confinement regulations, we immediately adapted, reassuring our collaborators and meeting the requests of our clients in order to guarantee continuity of service. In particular, the measures taken to protect the health of our employees, secure the sites and disinfect the premises were very reassuring.

"We launched the complex operation to switch activities for more than 60 brands to a softphone solution (C-PHONE) in less than a week in order to receive and redirect thousands of phone calls, emails and text messages.

So far, we have not seen any delays or unplanned absences of employees working remotely and we are even seeing an increase in productivity. The collaborative links and team spirit have actually been strengthened by the systems we set up.

The transition process was so successful that managers are now considering how working methods can be adapted and improved in the post-coronavirus world, the New Normal.

A real smart-working dynamic has been established, that makes it possible to imagine new prospects for tomorrow, once this confinement ends. The direction team is currently working on a survey to will assess the satisfaction with the implementation of teleworking arrangements. The results of this survey should enable us to further improve our operating methods and adapt to any future developments.”
